Yoga In India
Many of my students ask me if Indians practice yoga a lot back home. Well my answer would be always that it is personal. But as i lived all my life there, people i met and learnt about, many do practice one form or the other. Some are in pranayama and some in Hatha yoga and some in Ashtanga yoga, meditation etc.
As the presence of media and other means is increasing, more and more people are getting in to it, which is nice considering in this new age of economic growth and lavish lifestyles, we are forgetting what our ancestors created, something which is one of the best ways to improve quality of life in all aspects, i.e. let it be physical, mental or emotional.
I remember that when i moved to Mysore, in start all the yoga shala's there were filled with mostly foreigners, this is time i am talking about of 90s, and in recent years more and more Indian's have started joining, may be this is reason that more and more yoga centres are coming up in India now a days.
One of things i want to mention before i continue is that i am not writer, and i am not trying to be one, so if material you read from me have some mistakes or of the track in some ways, then please keep in mind i am just trying my best.
In recent years teachers like Swami Ramdev have been waking Indians up early in mornings to do yoga, i talk to many of my friends and they keep joking around that their parents or relatives are passionate about it. All the tv shows and workshops all around India have created millions of followers.
In future i see more and more people doing it and benefiting from it. Good things always grow slow and take time, but they sustain.
