Meeting stones and flower with ashtanga practice

It is may be so well known to all the yoga practitioners of any style that there are good days and there are bad ones too. But i wanted to mention few of my thoughts on this anyway, especially about Ashtanga practice.

As we proceed toward knowing yoga more with practice, there comes time when one starts to feel slow progress or some postures not coming right with trying hard. I look back in my practice and i remember that once we achieve fast progress, later it slows down dramatically. The reason of course as it is that easy things come fast and furious but hard ones take time.

Patience and abandoning expectations helps a lot. Whatever we look for, if it is hard, be sure that it is going to take time. I feel there is that period of first couple of years of practice which decide the rest. If we are patient there, one can be sure that better things will come soon and fast, at same time we enjoy them more.

Mind is tricky when it comes to doing something new and we feel good about it. We want all at same time. I see that practitioners push themselves more and more. This is where we lose the track. I am not saying one will lose it forever, may be for some it is learning curve and for some it might become end of practice.

Ashtanga practitioners are known for their dedication and regular practice, reason is simple, this is something which you keep doing and learning something new all the time. The reason one becomes dedicated is, as we learn connecting breathing to postures and start controlling mind, this becomes need of practitioner to do practice every day.

There are pains and gains. As any good teacher will tell you, “no pain, no gain“. When you meet stones of discomfort, it is still very pleasant. Question is how we see it. If discomfort and hardship brings your body to better state, I do not think it is really pain. I am not talking about permanent pain, I am talking about pain with postures. If we keep positive mind, and embrace those discomforts, flowers will be there in your path sooner or later.
