Yoga for Weight loss

It is probably most asked question i come across, can we lose weight with yoga?

Before we get in to that, let's look at facts, one has to understand few things about styles of yoga. Some of yoga styles are intense and some are relaxing. When i talk about styles, please understand that i only talk about traditional yoga styles which emerged from India. If one wants to lose weight, discipline of practice is needed. One cannot say to themselves that i did two weeks practice, lets take some break now, not saying that it will make big some difference, but in long run it will when time is coming near to losing weight.

To answer, yes one can lose weight with yoga, provided that one keeps practicing regularily. We also have to keep in mind that dieting does not work with yoga , one has to keep eating properly but not unhealthy and be sure that you will still keep losing weight. Try avoiding processed and unhealthy food and you will be on your way of achieving something you always wanted but always found reason not to.

The intense heat created from inside of body with rhythmic movement and controlled breathing along with proper muscle work which ashtanga vinyasa yoga provides, one starts to see changes in body in few weeks itself. It takes few months to start seeing bigger differences in losing weight, as yoga works slow but in proper way, so one should not expect magic to happen in few classes. As in some extreme exercises, one is put to limits to achieve losing weight, this in turn can damage body in some other ways even though one loses weight. This is where Ashtanga vinyasa is different, it works on whole body, each muscle of body and massages and tones inner parts on body as well to achieve unbelievable benefits.

The big problem one faces while practing intense styles of yoga like Ashtanga vinyasa yoga or Mysore style is, it feels hard in start and people start to think that it is out of their reach, well who said things like losing weight or controlling mind were easy?

If one can commit themselves to go through that hard couple of weeks, path starts to look easier and motivation starts becoming strong.

Many a times from my experience i have seen that people start to feel uncomfortable during practice, this is bacause either we have superiority complex or inferiority complex. One should understand that in yoga everyone is doing yoga in sense what is good for them. There is no competition, if one thinks they can do something better, there will always be someone else who can do postures better than them, so how long will we keep chasing that and be unhappy?

When one starts to lose weight, self confidence automatically arises, as well as concentration. Problem associated with obesity like anxiety, stress etc start moving away. The way this happens is that meditation or in simple terms concentration of mind starts increasing and one starts to learn to control mind with practice of yoga.
